Cooper Named Observatory President

Katherine ClarkConway, NH - Randy Cooper of Eaton has been named president of the Mount Washington Observatory. The observatory is a non-profit organization that has captured climate data on the summit of Mount Washington since 1932. "It is both an honor and privilege to be elected as president of the observatory on its 75th anniversary," Cooper said. "The observatory is a legendary part of the history and culture of Mount Washington and the people who live in its valleys." Trustees and a new slate of officers were elected at the observatory's annual meeting, held Sept. 8 at the Mount Washington Resort at Bretton Woods. Mount Washington Valley residents elected to three-year terms on the board were: H. Edmund Bergeron, of North Conway, and Gail F. Paine, of Intervale. The new slate of officers includes: Cooper, president; Kenneth Jones, of Amherst, immediate past president; Drew Landry, of Keene, vice president; Leslie Schomaker, of Jackson, treasurer; and Jack B. Middleton, of Freedom, secretary. Mount Washington Observatory's board of trustees is made up of 25 individuals from diverse professional and geographic backgrounds.
